Dubai:Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif, who was in detention in Dubai since June 1 for carrying contraband drugs, has been discharged and will be deported to his country at the earliest, according to Public Prosecutor Mohammad Al Nuaimi.
Asif was caught with opium in his wallet at the Dubai airport on his way to Lahore after taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Pakistan embassy officials told PTI that the deportation process was complete and barring some unforeseen delays, he would be deported soon.
Pakistan Cricket Board officials were, however, unable to confirm the development.
Forensic examinations had confirmed that Asif was in possession of the banned recreational drug opium.
It is believed that Asif had 0.24gms of opium in his wallet when he was transiting through Dubai en route to Pakistan from India.
