New Delhi:
"There is not a lot of difference between success and failure. He (Sehwag) tried to play that way in the first Test too. But it did not come off. This time it did... Good luck to him," Bayliss told reporters after the match.
"You don't average 50 in Test cricket without being a good player, he has been averaging about 50," he added.
Sehwag scored an unbeaten 128 while other batsmen collapsed cheaply.
Asked if he talked to Ajantha Mendis after Sehwag was hitting him, Bayliss said "I didn't talk to him at all. He is going to be a quick learner. He would have reassessed himself probably on what he was doing. He went out and things went his way after the break.
"On any other day he could have had two or three wickets early in that first session. But that is the way it goes. That is the game of cricket. So you have to tackle the good with the bad."
But Bayliss said the home side made a come back into the match after the rain break and felt they would have been in advantageous position if the play was not over before its scheduled time.
IANS adds: "We need to take their remaining six wickets as quickly as possible and then get something more than they managed and it's going to be an interesting encounter," Bayliss added.
Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss wished "good luck" to centurion Indian opener Virender Sehwag for his stint ahead, saying the second cricket Test was "fairly even" after the rain-affected opening day on Thursday."There is not a lot of difference between success and failure. He (Sehwag) tried to play that way in the first Test too. But it did not come off. This time it did... Good luck to him," Bayliss told reporters after the match.
