London:
Shah was included on Monday after beating all-rounder Bopara for the place vacated by Michael Vaughan, who is taking a break from Test cricket to rediscover his form after relinquishing the captaincy in August.
Shah, who scored 88 and 38 in Mumbai in 2006, was drafted in to bolster the batting, while Graeme Swann was preferred to Adil Rashid and Samit Patel to provide an extra spinning option alongside Monty Panesar.
With seven One-Day Internationals preceding the two December Tests, England picked two wicketkeepers in Tim Ambrose and Matthew Prior.
The 12-match tour begins with a warmup on Nov. 9 and concludes with the end of the final Test on December 23.
England squad:Kevin Pietersen (Captain), Tim Ambrose, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Monty Panesar, Matthew Prior, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss, Graeme Swann.
