Karachi:The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued gag orders to players taking part in the ongoing first-class Pentangular cricket tournament at different venues in the country.
Approached for comments, several Pakistani players, including fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, declined to speak to the media following the board's directive.
"The board has issued letters to all of us clearly stating we are not supposed to speak on any issue with the media," one player said.
"We have been warned of severe disciplinary action if anyone violates these instructions," he added.
The PCB letter also states that in case a player is approached by the media, he would have to seek permission from the team manager.
There too the player can only speak on the day's proceedings but will refrain from commenting on other cricket related issues.
Incidentally, Shoaib landed in big trouble in the last Pentangular tournament when he accused the board of having different policies for different players and was subsequently banned for five years for violating the players code of conduct.
