Mumbai:A heel injury sustained while scoring a double century against Delhi last week has forced Hyderabad captain V V S Laxman to skip the crucial Elite Division Group 'A' Ranji Trophy tie against Mumbai commencing on Tuesday at the MCA's Bandra-Kurla Complex ground.
"Laxman experienced a shooting pain in his right heel when he batted in the last match against Delhi and had a runner too for the last fifty runs that he scored. He was not in a position to take part in this match and has pulled out after being named in the team," said Hyderabad team's coach Kanwaljit Singh on Monday.
The India stalwart batted for almost nine hours and made 224 against Delhi in Hyderabad's massive score of 553. It was his 215th first class match.
Team physio Vijay Bharatiya said that the injury takes between one and two weeks to heal. "It's a pain in the heel region and he would take from one to two weeks to recover," he told reporters after the team's practice session.
Also out with a shoulder injury is left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha who has been advised a MRI scan, Bharatiya said.
"Ojha was injured during the Cuttack ODI game (against England, on November 26). He hurt his left shoulder while fielding and has gone back. He would undergo a MRI in Hyderabad," the physio said.
