New Delhi:

The Mumbai Indians on Saturday initiated the swapping of players in the second season of the Indian Premier League as they traded pacer Ashish Nehra for batsman Shikhar Dhawan of the Delhi Daredevils.

This is a direct transfer and there is no cash involved in the swap.

Earlier, the IPL teams had shown interest in having players of their state in the side. However both Nehra and Dhawan play for Delhi.

Nehra's presence will bolster Daredevils' pace department that boasts of Glenn McGrath, Mohammad Asif and Yo Mahesh. McGrath has not confirmed his participation in the 2009 season after the Mumbai terror strike. He has said that he would take advice from Cricket Australia about the security situation in India before boarding the plane.

Mohammad Asif, who was caught with opium at Dubai airport while returning home after the inaugural IPL event, is yet to be cleared by the IPL drugs inquiry tribunal after he failed dope tests during the inaugural IPL last year.
