Called "lump of s**t" by Symonds in a radio interview, McCullum said he hoped the Australian would put behind his recent off-field shenanigans and return to play at the highest level.
"International cricket is better for his involvement in it," McCullum said.
"Hopefully he can get things sorted and get back out on the field. (There are) no hard feelings. He's entitled to his own opinion, this was just obviously a strong one on it," said the Kiwi stumper-batsman.
"You've got to have thick skin to survive in this game," McCullum was quoted as saying by the 'Australian Associated Press' (AAP).
Cricket Australia took note of Symonds' comments and summoned him for a Code of Conduct hearing on Thursday which will be presided by retired Victorian judge Gordon Lewis.
Though CA chief executive Michael Brown refused to comment on the nature of punishment that could be handed to Symonds, a CA spokesman confirmed the maximum penalty he could face if found guilty was 5750 Australian dollar fine for a first-time offence.
