London:Former England pacer Chris Lewis has pleaded not guilty to charges of drug trafficing before he was remanded to custody, the BBC reported on Thursday.
Lewis and co-defendant basketball player Chad Kirnon appeared at Croydon Crown Court after they were arrested at Gatwick airport on December 8 when 4kg of cocaine was found in baggage while arriving from St Lucia.
The cocaine, concealed in liquid form in fruit tins, was discovered as part of routine checks.
The 41-year-old former England cricketer played 32 Tests and 53 One-Day Internationals. The Guyana-born player claimed 93 wickets in Tests.
Judge Warwick McKinnon set the next date for trial on May 11.
Lewis retired from county cricket in 2000 after spells with Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Surrey.
