Karachi:
"The committee has asked Dubai authorities to provide them with the initial report of the airport police and customs officials who detained Asif after finding 0.24 gram of opium in his possession," one source close to the committee said.
He said the committee wanted to see initial findings of the Dubai authorities who later cleared Asif.
But it is no secret that the Pakistan government had to use diplomatic channels to get Asif cleared and save him from being thrown into the jail.
The Dubai authorities, in their final report, said the amount of opium found on Asif was minimal which did not warrant a criminal case and deported him in June last year. The pacer was detained while returning home from India after playing in the Indian Premier League.
The source said PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt had asked the probe committee, headed by former skipper Wasim Bari, to finalise and submit its recommendations by this month end. The committee has already heard Asif's version where he is said to have claimed that he was not deported and can travel to Dubai any time.
