Statistical highlights after the first day's play of the third Test between India and New Zealand on Friday.

India's 375 for 9 is their highest ever score on the first day of a Test match, eclipsing their 372 for seven against South Africa at Bloemfontein in 2001-02.
India (375/9) posted their highest ever total on the first day of a Test match in New Zealand, surpassing their 270 (all out) at Christchurch in 1975-76.
India's aforesaid total is the best ever by any team on the first day of a Test match at Basin Reserve, outstripping Australia's 372 for four in 1973-74.
India's aforesaid total is their highest ever on the first day of a Test match against New Zealand, obliterating their 311 for three in the 1999-00 Ahmedabad Test.
India's 376 for nine is their highest ever at Basin Reserve, Wellington, bettering their 356 in their second innings in 1998-99.
Sachin Tendulkar, for the first time in a Test series in New Zealand, has aggregated 300 runs - 335 runs at an average of 83.75, including one century and two fifties (strike rate:61.92).
Sachin's aggregate is now the best by an Indian batsman in New Zealand, surpassing Ajit Wadekar's 328 (ave.46.86) in the four-Test series in New Zealand in 1967-68.
Sachin's previous best performance in a Test series in New Zealand was in 1998-99 when he had amassed 227 in three innings at an average of 75.66, including one century and one fifty. (Strike rate: 71.83).
Sachin is the leading run-getter in the present series on either side. Jesse Ryder (NZ) has the next best tally - 324 (ave.108.00).
Gautam Gambhir (278), Rahul Dravid (254) and VVS Laxman (234) are the next three run-getters for India.
Sachin has aggregated 1397 at an average of 53.73 in 19 Tests, including four centuries and seven fifties, against New Zealand - the most by an Indian batsman against New Zealand.
During the course of his 53rd fifty (62 off 85 balls), Sachin became the first Indian player to aggregate 800 runs in New Zealand - 833 at an average of 52.06, including two centuries and five fifties, in eleven Tests.
Sachin is the leading Indian run-getter at Basin Reserve, Wellington - 281 in five innings at an average of 56.20, including one century and two fifties. His aggregate is the fourth best against New Zealand at this venue. Only Greg Chappell - 380 (ave.380.00), Steve Waugh - 302 (ave.60.40), Brian Lara - 291 (ave.58.20) have made more runs than Sachin against New Zealand at this venue.
Sachin's second successive fifty at Basin Reserve is his second best innings at this venue, next only to the 113 off 151 balls in 1998-99.
Playing in his 90th overseas Test, Sachin posted his 30th fifty away from home.
Virender Sehwag (48 off 51 balls) registered his highest score in New Zealand, bettering his 34 at Napier last week.
Sehwag, in seven Tests (twelve innings) against New Zealand, has aggregated only 345 runs at an average of 28.75, including one century - 130 off 225 balls at Mohali in October 2003.
In New Zealand, Sehwag's performance so far is below average - 168 in eight innings (5 Tests) at an average of 21.00 (strike rate: 94.38).
Overall, Sehwag's 48 is his second best score against New Zealand.
The 73-run stand between Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir is India's first fifty-plus partnership for the first wicket in New Zealand after 15 years.
Navjot Singh Sidhu and Nayan Mongia had put on 102 for the first wicket at Hamilton in March 1994. After a gap of twelve innings, the 73-run partnership for the first wicket is the first stand of fifty-plus for India in New Zealand.
Sehwag-Gambhir pair became the first Indian opening pair to put on a partnership of fifty at Basin Reserve, Wellington - the previous highest for India for this wicket-position in previous ten innings was 43 by Abid Ali and Farokh Engineer in February/March 1968.
Gambhir (23) has played 21 double-digit innings in succession, equalling an Indian record, held by VVS Laxman.
Dravid and Tendulkar were involved in a stand of 90 - India's first partnership of fifty or more for the third wicket at Basin Reserve, Wellington - the previous highest for India for this wicket-position was 38 between Dravid and Sourav Ganguly in December 1998.
VVS Laxman is averaging 1.33 at Basin Reserve, Wellington, his sequence of scores being 0 & 0 (PAIR OF SPECTACLES) in December 2002 and 4 on April 3, 2009.
Rahul Dravid (35 off 114 balls) posted his second best score at Basin Reserve, Wellington - his highest being 76 in December 2002.
Harbhajan Singh (60 off 78 balls) registered his highest score against New Zealand, bettering his 20 at Hamilton in December 2002.
Harbhajan's previous four innings at Wellington were 1 & 1 in 1998-99 and 0 & 1 in 2002-03.
Harbhajan's first fifty against New Zealand is his seventh in Tests.
Of his seven fifties, five have been recorded by Harbhajan away from home.
Harbhajan's 60 is his fourth best innings - his top three being 66 against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in June 2001; 63 against Australia at Sydney in January 2008 and 63 against Australia at Adelaide in January 2008.
Harbhajan became the third No.8 batsman for India to post a fifty in New Zealand - the first two batsmen being Syed Kirmani - 78 at Auckland in March 1981 and 73 by Kiran More at Napier in February 1990.
Harbhajan is averaging 31.33 in the series - 94 in three innings (strike rate: 81.03).
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (52) posted his first fifty against New Zealand - his 15th in Tests.
During the course of his aforesaid fifty, Dhoni has completed his 1,000 runs away from home - 1004 at an average of 34.62, including one century and five fifties in 20 Tests.
Dhoni is averaging 53.77 as captain - 484 in ten innings (7 Tests), including six fifties.
Dhoni and Harbhajan put on 79 runs for the seventh wicket - India's second best for this wicket-position at Wellington - the best being 116 between Brijesh Patel and Syed Kirmani in February 1976.
Three fifty-plus innings have been recorded for India in the Wellington Test for the first time. In fact, India could never manage more than a fifty-plus in an innings at Basin Reserve.
Zaheer Khan (33) has recorded his second best score against New Zealand - his best being 51 not out at Hamilton in March 2009.
Zaheer Khan is averaging 46.00 in the present series - 92 in three innings with a strike rate of 122.66.
Ishant Sharma (15 not out) has posted his highest score against New Zealand, surpassing his 6 at Hamilton in the present series.
Munaf Patel (14 not out) has recorded his career-best score in Tests, eclipsing his 13 against West Indies at Basseterre in June 2006.
