Robin Singh Profile

Regarded as one of the best fielders of the Indian cricket team, Robin Singh was born in Trinidad, but later moved to India to pursue his cricketing aspirations. He represented Tamil Nadu on the first-class front, scoring more than 6000 runs and taking 172 wickets. He has been a useful all-rounder for most of his career.

A left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler, Singh made his ODI debut in 1989 against the West Indies. However, he was soon dropped from the team and had to wait for seven long years until his return as a regular. He was well-known for his brilliant athleticism on the field, useful batting at death and medium-pace bowling.

He retired from all forms of cricket in early 2004 and turned towards full-fledged coaching. He trained India’s junior and A squads, which included players like Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa. He was also the fielding coach of the Indian cricket team from 2007 to 2009. In 2008, the Deccan Chargers signed him as their head coach for the inaugural season of the IPL. He was then signed by the Mumbai Indians in 2010.
