London: Southampton signed Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama from Scottish champions Celtic for a fee reported to be a club record £12.5 million ($18.9 million) on Thursday.

Wanyama agreed a four-year contract with the Premier League club after lengthy negotiations and his arrival is believed to have broken the previous record fee Saints paid for Bologna's Gaston Ramirez last year.

The 22-year-old's move surpasses the £9.5 million Spartak Moscow paid Celtic for Aiden McGeady three years ago, making Wanyama the most expensive export from Scottish football.
