The 20th edition of the FIFA World Cup will kick-start in Brazil from Thursday and Google has coloured itself in football hues to celebrate the world's biggest sporting extravaganza. Its latest doodle is as much a tribute to the game as it is an ode to the vibrance of the host nation. (Carnival or Chaos: FIFA World Cup poised for kick-off)

Known for its creative and interactive illustrations, the internet giant's newest creation has a football - in Brazil's iconic yellow and green colours bouncing its way to the center. It stops in the middle to have each of the letters in the word Google jump up - symbolic perhaps of the fans that make the sport and the tournament exhilarating. The interactive play button, when clicked, breaks into an animated depiction of all that Brazil is about - sun, sand, party and a whole lot of football. (Did you know? In fact, despite the controversies leading up to the World Cup including rising prices and protests by locals who are demanding better basic facilities, Brazil has promised to play perfect hosts to football heroes, tourists and fans. Such is the frenzy around the event that this edition of the World Cup is expected to be the most tweeted event ever. Brazil's Twitter director Guilherme Ribenboim said the volume of messages sent during the month-long competition starting on June 12 will dwarf the 150 million tweets sent about the 2012 London Olympic Games.
