World Cup 2014: Costa Rica Defeat Greece in Penalty Shootout to Enter Quarterfinals

In a hotly-contested match, both Costa Rica and Greece fought hard but the former took the match 5-3 in penalties to create history and enter quarterfinals of FIFA World Cup 2014 for the first time ever.

Recife: Ten-man Costa Rica beat Greece in a penalty shootout Sunday to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time.

Michael Umana scored the decisive penalty as Costa Rica won the shootout 5-3 after the game ended 1-1 following extra time.

Theofanis Gekas saw his penalty saved by Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas for the only miss in the shootout.
