UEFA Cup champion FC Liverpool and German club Borussia Dortmund played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday in a lively match that left both still seeking their first win after returning to the Champions League. It was a match of missed chances. Dortmund's Czech mid fielder Tomas Rosicky came close to scoring a goal in the 9th minute when his shot flew over the cross bar. Liverpool's two forwards, Michael Owen and Emile Heskey both failed to score for the first time in a match this season. Michael Owen who has scored 13 goals prior to this match failed to convert this free kick. Dortmund got a break just before the first half closed when Owen drove around Dortmund veteran Stefan Reuter, who grabbed him by the jersey, and if the forward had fallen instead of continuing to close in on the goal mouth, a penalty would have been whistled. Owen backlegged to fellow forward Emile Heskey in the 56th minute, whose volley flew over the crossbar and his close-in bicycle kick landed left of the post. Dortmund's Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky generated the best chance of the Group B match in the 69th minute -- a quick low kick from just outside the area that cracked off the left post after Marcio Amoroso whipped a cross back to him. The match ended with both teams scoring a goal-less draw.
