After nearly 20 years, the presence of a Brazilian team has added colour to the 12-team outfit of the 107th IFA Shield. Today the Brazilian team Palmeiras had their first match at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata against the Tata Football Academy, which they won 4-0. Even though the Brazilian national football team is struggling to make it to the World Cup in 2002, it's their artistic style that the Kolkata fans like the most. And Palmeiras aren't the only foreign flavour at the tournament, there's also Bangladesh's Mukti Joddha, Vietnam's Nam Dinh who will compete against the city giants Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The group winners and runners-up will play the quarterfinals on knockout basis and the final will be played on October 7. After the fiasco of the Sahara Millennium cup tournament earlier this year, the football fans also will be hoping for some top quality fare and for an Indian team to keep the trophy at home.
