Trinidad & Tobago :
Nigeria clinched a spot in the final of the FIFA U-17 World Championship in Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday with a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. The only goal of a dull semi-final came via a fourth minute penalty converted by Femi Opabunmi. France have beaten Argentina 2-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad to reach the final of FIFA's Under-17 World Championship. Argentinian Carlos Tevez opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a clinical finish but man of the match Anthony Le Tallec equalized in the 57th minute before Jeremie Berthod headed the winner just two minutes later. Insult was added to Argentinian misery in the 74th minute when Maximiliano Lopez was sent off for a rash challenge on Faty. In the other match, Nigeria took the lead after just four minutes, after a cross in was handled by a Burkina Faso defender that gave the 1993 champions a penalty. And Opabunmi had no trouble converting the spot kick, for his fifth goal of the tournament. Nigeria had plenty of chances, with the best one coming in the 87th minute as substitute Karimu Shaibu only needed to beat the keeper, but he couldn't convert. Burkina were down to 10 men in the 91st minute as defender Lassana Kanoute was sent off for dangerous play and Nigeria held on to its lead.Topics mentioned in this article
