Athens:David Beckham and substitute Andy Cole scored to give Manchester United a 2-0 win over Olympiakos and the club's first away win in the Champions League in 11 attempts. Beckham, hero of England's World Cup qualifying game against Greece on Saturday, scored in the 66th minute in front of a crowd of more than 70,000 in the Spiros Louis stadium. Andy Cole scored shortly after he came on in the 82nd minute. It was an evenly contested first half Olympiakos getting many a chance, the best one coming in the 28th minute, Stelio Giannakopoulos flicking a brilliantly taken free kick by Djordjevic's but Fabian Barthez, managed to keep Manchester on level terms with a superb save. United had their own share of chances with Ryan Giggs failing to find the target in one such opportunity. Veron had another chance to give Manchester the lead, but Eleftheropoulos was up to the task, as both teams were goal less at half time. Beckham turned out to be the hero for the second time against the Greeks. The England captain managed to tap home a Ryan Giggs centre from the 6 yard line as Manchester took the lead in the 66th minute. That goal seemed to get Manchester into a confident frame of mind, a minute later and Beckham returned Giggs favour, with a nice cross in but the Welshman's header was well saved by the Greek keeper. But Eleftheropoulos had more work to do as Paul Scholes was next to test the goalkeeper, his shot from 18 yards beaten away to Giggs who failed to make a difference off the rebound. A good pass to Ruud Van Nistelrooy by Roy Keane saw the Dutch striker curl the ball past a defender, but he couldn't beat the post. Sir Alex Fergusson's decision to get Andy Cole on as a substitute payed off. Cole with some brilliant team work with Nistelrooy left the Olympiakos defence looking on as the pair scored a picture perfect goal. United were up 2-0 after 82 minutes. Manchester held on to that score for their first away victory in this years champions league. Olympiakos though saw their home record in the Champions league ruined. This was their first loss in 13 games.
