Bayer Leverkusen beat Deportivo La Coruna 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday. Both teams had plenty to play for but surprisingly Deportivo could not raise their game to match the Leverkusen onslaught. The Germans were coming off a 4-0 loss to Juventus last week and Deportivo have had their share of trouble in the Primera Liga. And it all made for a nasty little scrap. Leverkusen surged ahead in the 64th minute when Brazilian Ze Roberto pulled off a Roberto Carlos style free kick. That opened the floodgates and Oliver Neuville scored, three minutes later, his second goal of the Champions League. In the 78th minute, Leverkusen had a corner and Michael Ballack made use of some poor defending to head in a third goal. Deportivo had beaten Arsenal 2-0 last week. But they appeared shockingly harmless against Leverkusen as they could not create not one real chance. Despite their 3-0 loss, Deportivo are still in contention for a place in the knockout stage because all four teams in group D have three points each.Topics mentioned in this article
