London:Aston Villa beat struggling Ipswich Town at Villa Park on Monday to move to within six points of English Premier League leaders Liverpool. A goal in each half by their Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel - the second courtesy of a fortunate deflection - gave Villa the three points after they had fallen behind to an early strike from Nigerian international Finidi George. In contrast, Ipswich stay bottom of the table - four points adrift of Derby County. Ipswich Town were looking to move up from the bottom of the table, when they travelled to Aston Villa. And the tractor boys couldn't have asked for a better start. Finidi George with a shot from 30 meters out completely beat Peter Schmeichel as Ipswich took the lead after 18 minutes. Villa were under more pressure 8 minutes later, Schmeichel pulling off a nice save, to send Jermaine Wright's header out for a corner. But a minute before the interval, Juan Pablo Angel levelled the match for the home side, with a great header. Villa should have been in the lead 10 minutes into the second half, but Paul Merson was denied by the cross bar. Mark Venus nearly put the visitors ahead but his low free kick from 30 meters out was just wide. In the 70th minute it was Villa who were in the lead. Angel got a lucky deflection off a defender as the ball lobbed over the Ipswich keeper into the back of the net for the Brazilian's 10th goal of the season. The 2-1 win put Villa six points behind leaders Liverpool.
