Newcastle remains top of the Premier League following a remarkable 4-3 win over Leeds at Elland Road. The match between Manchester United and Southampton began with the quickest goal of the season in the English Premier League with Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring after just 28 seconds to give United a 1-0 lead. The Dutchman made it 2-0 in the 34th minute and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of Norway scored making it 3 goals for Manchester at half time. Southampton finally got a chance of their own when Marian Pahars scored in the 55th minute but this was to be their only goal as Roy Keane and Phil Neville put in a couple more for Manchester to give them a 6-1 victory. In another English Premier League encounter, the match between Newcastle and Leeds United began at a fierce pace with Newcastle's unmarked Craig Bellamy calmly slotting a goal in the 38th minute but Leeds responded a minute later when a clever pass by Mark Viduka put the controversial Lee Bowyer in the clear. Leeds then went a goal up five minutes into the second half, when Viduka turned brilliantly on the edge of Newcastle's box before finding the back of the net with a perfectly placed strike. It became 3-1 when Ian Harte beat the goal keeper just inside his left hand post. But the match was far from over as New castle staged a stunning comeback. Robbie Elliott with a diving header brought Newcastle within a goal in the 71st minute. Leeds' Eirik Bakke was adjudged to have handled the ball. Alan Shearer successfully converting the penalty kick for an equaliser. Newcastle's winner came in injury time through Nolberto Solano, who ended some slick play to help Newcastle improve their lead to 3 points atop the Premier League.
