Gelsenkirchen:In a Group A match of the World Cup, unfancied Ecuador caused a huge upset by beating Poland 2-0 in Gelsenkirchen. The win gives the Latin Americans a great chance of progressing to the next round from this group, especially after Costa Rica's defeat to hosts Germany. A glimpse of the Ecuador goalkeeper Christian Mora shows that he has his country's flag painted on both sides of his face. Ecuador had their heart on their sleeves and the flag on their faces as they went for an unlikely win. Delgado strikes And the Latin Americans took the lead in the 24th minute. Agustin Delgado flicking on a long throw into the box and Carlos Tenorio headed home to stun the Poles, who had a decidedly better start to the game. Poland have their best chance so far as Ecuador switch off momentarily, but substitute Ireneusz Jelen smacks his left-foot shot off the crossbar. Poland go agonisingly close to pulling one back again, as Pawel Brozek cuts on to his left foot from 20 yards and curls a fine shot against the post with Cristian Mora well-beaten.
