Manchester United has rejected a bid from Spain's Real Madrid to sign striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, the English club said on Wednesday. "We have received a bid for Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid, which we have refused," Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson told the club's Web site. "As it stands, Ruud van Nistelrooy remains a Manchester United player." Ferguson was speaking after United's 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on its preseason tour of South Africa. Ferguson said last week that the Dutch international had asked to leave United and that there was interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. United signed Van Nistelrooy in April 2001 for a British record fee at the time of 19 million pounds. The form of Van Nistelrooy, who has scored more than 150 goals for the Red Devils, slumped in the final few months of last season and he also fell out with Ferguson.
