Geneva:
Germany captain Michael Ballack appeared to injure his left ankle during a practice match on Thursday. The midfielder had signed with English champion Chelsea last week. He left after 26 minutes of a game against the junior team of the local club Servette. Officials said neither Ballack nor team doctors were concerned. It was not immediately clear if Ballack would play in Germany's friendly match on Saturday against Luxembourg in Freiburg, Germany. Ballack was driven to the team's hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva to be examined. "The first diagnosis is not dramatic," assistant coach Joachim Loew said. "There is no danger that he could miss the World Cup". Loew said Ballack might have to skip "two or three days" of practice. Germany won the game 12-0 and coach Juergen Klinsmann used 20 of his 23 players. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
