Cairo:
Libya held Morocco to a 0-0 draw in Group A of the African Cup of Nations, eliminating both teams from the tournament. The Moroccans controlled the match, but were unable to breakdown a solid Libyan defense. "There was psychological pressure on us, and that reflected on our performance. We didn't play well in the opening match (against the Ivory Coast) and we paid the price," Morocco assistant coach Jawad al-Mirani said. High pressure Libya, playing for pride after having lost its two opening matches, was content to sit back and absorb Morocco's pressure. The team tried to launch several counterattacks that were dealt with easily by the Atlas Lions. "We expected Morocco to be focused, but still, we should have taken advantage of the chances we had. Still, I'm proud of our performance today," Libya coach Ilija Loncarevic said. Missed chances Libya tried to create chances, mostly through Tarek Tayeb, but his efforts weren't enough to give Libya its first victory. Nader Karra caused problems for Morocco, almost chipping Morocco goalkeeper Tarek Jarmouni in the fifth minute, and Nader Tarhuni crossed a ball that nearly caught out Jarmouni but went wide in the 63rd. Mohammed El Yaagoubi almost scored in the 15th minute for Morocco, but his powerful shot from outside the area slammed into the post and out to safety. Lineups: Morocco: Tarek Jarmouni, Hoalid Regragui, Talal El Karkouri, Noureddine Naybet, Mohammed El Yaagoubi Mohamed Madihi, 71), Houssine Kharja, Youssef Safri (El Amine Erbate, 86) Marouane Chamakh, Hicham Aboucherouane (Ali Boussabon, 53), Youssouf Hadji, Badr El Kaddouri.
