Baden-Baden:
Hours after a torn ligament in the knee ruled him out of the rest of the World Cup finals, England striker Michael Owen left Germany to return home. Owen was accompanied back by his wife and child. England's Football Association confirmed the seriousness of Owen's injury after a scan on Wednesday. The striker will work with the medical staff of his club, Newcastle United, to get back to fitness, but he is likely to be out for several months. While the 26-year-old described it as a massive blow, coach Sven Goran Erikkson put up a brave face, saying that his team was still capable of lifting the World Cup despite the loss of Owen.Topics mentioned in this article
