The search for a successor for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been temporarily suspended. Ferguson has apparently done a u-turn and is now considering extending his 15-year reign at the club to another season. Ferguson was initially supposed to retire at the end of this season but if he stays then chances are that David Beckham might as well. Beckham has been refusing to sign a new contract with United apparently because he wanted to know who was replacing Ferguson. Chilavert ban under scanner FIFA the world governing body of football will examine an appeal this week by the Paraguayan Football Association against a four-match ban on keeper Jose Luis Chilavert. The ban was imposed on Chilavert for spitting at Brazil's Roberto Carlos last year in a World Cup qualifying game. If the ban stands, then Chilavert could miss Paraguay's first two World Cup games. The temperamental keeper has been rated as one of the best of all time and he likes scoring goals as well! The Italian striker who currently plays for Brescia is apparently considering retirement. That follows after he was ruled out for the rest of the season. The 34-year-old veteran of three World Cups underwent surgery this week to reconstruct his left knee. He had injured himself in an Italian cup match last week.
