Cologne:
Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry scored a goal each on Friday to help France beat Togo 2-0 and advance to the second round at the World Cup. France, which won for the first time in six World Cup matches, took the lead in the 55th minute when Vieira scored on his 30th birthday. Henry added another in the 61st. Switzerland, which beat South Korea 2-0 in the other Group G match, won the group with seven points. France was next with five. France will face Spain in the next round on Tuesday in Hanover while Switzerland plays Ukraine on Monday in Cologne. France, which drew its opening two matches, would have been eliminated with another draw. The win means that Zinedine Zidane will get another chance to play for France. The Real Madrid midfielder was suspended for Friday's match because he got a second yellow card against South Korea on Sunday in a 1-1 draw. Zidane has said he will retire from soccer after the World Cup. Both David Trezeguet and Franck Ribery also had chances for France, which beat Brazil in the 1998 World Cup final but was eliminated in the first round four years ago.
