Leeds, Glasgow:

In the UEFA Champions League, Leeds United were playing Dutch Champions PSV Eindhoven. Leeds, not having won a competitive match since beating West Ham United in an English Premier League fixture, desperately needed to win the tie. Leeds should have taken the lead in the 11th minute, with Lee Bowyer passing the ball to Mark Viduka, but his shot was deflected wide by the Eindhoven keeper. The hosts got another opportunity in the 23rd minute, with Mark Viduka crossing the ball over to Harry Kewell. But Kewell's shot went over the crossbar, leaving him quite embarrassed. The visitors then claimed a chance in the 33rd minute, but Marc van Bommel's cross was headed wide by Andre Ooijer. The hosts got yet another chance four minutes into the second half, but Bowyer's header was tipped away by the Eindhoven keeper for a corner. The visitors started to dominate after this. Van Bommel passed the ball to Mateji Kezman, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Nigel Martyn. However, PSV continued undeterred and should have taken the lead in the 73rd minute, but Jan Vennegoor's shot went wide. Eindhoven were finally rewarded in the 89th minute when Theo Lucius' volley was tipped on to the crossbar by Martyn. Vennegoor headed home the rebound and PSV won 1-0 to knock Leeds United out of the UEFA Cup. Feyenoord register win Feyenoord were up against Glasgow Rangers at home. The Scottish side took the lead in the 26th minute, as Neil McCann converted Barry Ferguson's free kick. The hosts soon equalized, with Pierre van Hooijdonk converting a free kick from just outside the area. Eight minutes later it was almost a replay of the first goal for the Dutch side. Hooijdonk gave Feyenoord a 2-1 lead. The home side increased their advantage in the 46th minute, with a rebound from the post proving lucky as Van Hooijdonk's cross was headed in to make it 3-1 for Feyenoord. Barry Ferguson scored from the spot for the Rangers in the 53rd minute, but it was not enough, as Feyenoord won 3-2.
