Port-Of-Spain:
Not injured just aging, Soccer Warriors forward Russell Latapy will get his last chance to play before his fellow Trinidadians on Wednesday when the World Cup-bound side faces Peru in a friendly. ''I have been doing this now for quite some time and it is just my body speaking to me,'' the 37-year-old Latapy said. ''I'm not injured but rather my knees are telling me that it's time to say good bye.'' Latapy, who is player-coach at Scottish Division One club Falkirk, hopes to continue managing, especially at a higher level. ''I have given a lot as a player and now I want to continue to serve and give back to my country as a coach,'' he said. ''I don't want to push out coach (Trinidad manager) Leo Beenhakker just yet, but when he leaves I would love the chance to play a role as coach to help mold the future of TT's football.'' Playing one last time before a home crowd brings a flood of memories for Latapy. ''I have been blessed for so long. I have received so much love from the local fans that it will be a special occasion on Wednesday for me personally,'' he said. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
