Anit Ghosh's story is inspiring to say the least. Former captain of the East Bengal team, Anit has not been playing for months now due to an injury. But his love for the game couldn't keep him away for long and he's now fighting fit and raring to go. Anit has come a long way in the last nine months when there were doubts over whether he would even be able to play football again. Captaining East Bengal during a National League match on December 12 last year, Anit had suffered a serious ligament tear. "After I got injured, I didn't realise that it was a ligament tear. When I found out, I went to Dr Anant Joshi in Mumbai. He suggested an operation. I was the captain at that time, so obviously I was very dejected," said Anit. East Bengal had won five titles last year under Anit's captaincy including the Durand Cup. Had the injury not intervened, Anit would have been captaining East Bengal during their historic win at the ASEAN Championship in Jakarta last month. But East Bengal's attitude to Anit during the nine months following his injury have disillusioned him. He has asked the club to release him, and is considering a choice of other football clubs for his comeback. "I want to make a comeback with any club. I want to start from scratch. I haven't played for India in a while. So I want to start from where I left off. I am ready to play. It's all in God's hands now," said Anit. And with football at the centre of his life, Anit's hard work in the last nine months may finally begin to pay off.Topics mentioned in this article
