Siliguri:
East Bengal defeated Eastern Railway by a solitary goal in the IFA Shield group league match at the Kanchanjungha stadium today. The Kolkata giants disappointed their 10,000 supporters who turned up to watch the match as they missed half a dozen easy goal scoring chances. The solitary goal of the match came in the eighth minute when Tluanga after receiving a cross from Surya passed it to Captain Suley Musah who passed it on to Bijen Singh who made no mistake in putting the ball into the rival net. The Railway custodian Kaushik Paul put up a sterling performance under the bar and saved a number of sure goals. The railway men missed a golden opportunity to equalise the score against the ASEAN Cup winner when on the 23rd minute Saikat Mandal failed to put the ball on the rival goal after receiving a pass from Henry with just the custodian to beat. Both the teams were uncomfortable in the waterlogged field following incessant rain since last night. In the barren second half yellow cards were shown to Abhijit Mondal and S Dutta Bhowmick of Eastern Railway and Suley Musah of East Bengal. East Bengal will take on Wari in another group league match here on Monday. (PTI )Topics mentioned in this article
