Sao Paulo:
Argentine international Javier Mascherano left Corinthians' practice on Thursday after an altercation with a teammate. Mascherano was upset after a hard foul by veteran midfielder Marcelinho Carioca during a scrimmage at the team's training site in Sao Paulo. Thereafter, he complained to coach Geninho and left the practice session. Mascherano shoved Marcelinho Carioca as he exited the field. Geninho later said both Marcelinho Carioca and Mascherano would be fined and dropped from the team's match against Figueirense in the Brazilian league on Sunday. The scuffle happened just two days after Mascherano returned to Brazil after having to rush back to Argentina because of an undisclosed illness with his newborn daughter. He missed the team's 2-1 victory over Atletico Paranaense on Saturday. Last week the midfielder also got into an altercation with teammate Carlos Alberto during a training session. Corinthians are struggling in the Brazilian league, having lost seven of its last nine matches. The defending champion is last in the 20-team standings with only 13 points from 14 matches, 17 back of leader Sao Paulo by 17 points. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
