Newly-promoted Hertha Berlin will celebrate next season's return to the Bundesliga with a friendly against Spanish giants Real Madrid at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on July 27, it was announced on Thursday.
The visit of Jose Mourinho's side to the German capital has been organised partly as Hertha look to thank their fans as the Berlin club have enjoyed bumper gates this season, despite playing in Germany's second division.
"For us, this game against Real Madrid is not only a first-rate match, but also a thank you to our wonderful fans for their fantastic support," said Hertha chief executive officer Michael Preetz.
"We are very proud to welcome Real with all their stars to Berlin."
Just over 70,000 fans saw Hertha beat Paderborn in the second Bundesliga at the start of March, nearly 700,000 fans have already attended Berlin's home games this season and the final home match on May 15 is already sold out.
