New York: Legends do not die. Ask Pele and he will explain that they don't even fade. The iconic footballer believes he was a better player than the current super stars of soccer- Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo - and that his contribution to the sport is incomparable.
The Brazilian told American reporters during an event to mark the return of the New York Cosmos to MLS that he has given a lot to the sport. "For me, Pele is the best. Nobody has done more than Pele. He's the only player to be World Champion at 17, winning three World Cups and score over 1,208 goals," he said.
Currently serving as the honarary president of the revived New York Cosmos, Pele had scored 1,281 goals in 1363 career appearances spanning over 23 years.
