Zaragoza:
Real Zaragoza played host to Valencia on Sunday in this the second round of La Liga. The hosts drew their opening game and were looking to pick up more points in this match. However Valencia opened their season with a win and were looking to maintain their one hundred percent record. And it was the visitors who had the best of starts. They took the lead after just one minute with this strike from Miguel Angel Angulo. But six minutes later Zaragoza were back in the match, with Ewerthon De Souza providing the crucial equaliser. The home side then settled down and began to dominate possession, and they were rewarded for their efforts in the 28th minute, when a goal from Cani (Ruben Garcia Calamache) put them in front for the first time. Zaragoza from then on defended well and were able to take a 2-1 lead into the break. The crowd seemed to appreciate their efforts a€" as did what looked like a domestic cat, which somehow found its way onto the pitch. Both sides were evenly matched in the opening minutes of the second half. Oscar had what was the best chance for the home side to extend their lead about twenty minutes after the restart. However he slipped in the area, and although he was able to recover for the strike, his full force was not behind it and the shot was easily saved by Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares Ruiz. Moments later Zaragoza had another chance from a free kick. But once again Valencia had Canizares to thank for deflecting the shot from Leonardo Ponzio to safety. And Zaragoza were to rue those missed chances when in the 82nd minute, Valencia were able to get back on level terms. This time it was David Villa providing the crucial goal after catching the Zaragoza defence off-guard. 2-all at the final whistle, the result means Valencia now stand in sixth place in the standings after two games with four points. Zaragoza remain further down the table with two points from two games. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
