Italy beat Georgia 3-1 in Euro 2008 qualifying Group B on Wednesday. The 2-0 victory over Ukraine on Saturday was the Azzurri's first since the World Cup, giving their qualification hopes a much-needed boost after a 1-1 draw with Lithuania and 3-1 defeat to France. A dreadful misjudgement by home goalkeeper Giorgi Lomaia handed Italy the lead in the 17th minute. Daniele De Rossi's shot from distance was speculative, but the swerve on the ball was too much for Lomaia to cope with. Georgia were level eight minutes later, Giorgi Shashiashvili firing an unstoppable effort past Gianluigi Buffon. Break level Shashiashvilli crashed another shot against the post just before half-time. But the sides went in to the break level. The home side's task was made harder when they were reduced to ten men on the hour mark, Jaba Kankava's shown a second yellow card for a foul on Andrea Pirlo. Italy capitalised in clinical fashion less than a minute later. Antonio Di Natale crossed from the left, and Mauro Camoranesi powered a header past Lomaia into the corner of the net. Just over ten minutes later Italy wrapped up victory with their third of the game. Camoranesi was the provider, teeing up Simone Perrotta. Italy have seven points now, from four games - two points behind Group B leaders Scotland, who lost 2-0 in Ukraine. Georgia have three points. (AP)
