The All India Football Federation has slapped a fine of Rs three lakh on East Bengal and Rs one lakh each on Dempo Sports Club, Goa and footballer John Dias for the imbroglio involving the three over the signing of the player for the current season. The AIFF disciplinary committee, in a meeting held yesterday, decided to uphold the fine imposed by the Players' Status Committee on the parties involved in the controversy. Announcing this, Federation President Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said that those fined could appeal against the decision to the Appeals Committee within seven days. He said Dias' signature in the contract form in favour of East Bengal, which he later claimed to have been forged, would be sent for forensic examination. The midfielder had turned out for Salgaocar Sports Club last season but got into a controversy after both Dempo and East Bengal claimed that he had signed for them. Meanwhile, the AIFF has decided to scrutinise on September 20 the applications received for the post of national coach and hold an interview on September 30. Dasmunshi said a decision on roping in a technical director from abroad would be taken after the Durga Puja festival. (PTI)
