Athens:
Simone Perrotta scored a second-half goal Wednesday to give AS Roma a 1-0 win over Olympiakos in Group D of the Champions League. The 76th-minute goal came off a cross from Aleandro Rossi. It was Roma's first away win in the Champions League. The Italians had lost their previous five away games in Europe's most lucrative club competition. Roma now has six points from three games, three fewer than group leader Valencia. Olympiakos and Shakhtar have one each after Valencia beat Shakhtar 2-0 in the group's other game. The Italian team had its first chance in the 28th when a long-range shot by Taddei went just wide. Ten minutes later, Olympiakos squandered an opportunity when Michalis Konstantinou headed Rivaldo's free kick against the crossbar. Supported by a sold out crowd of 33,000, Olympiakos charged forward after halftime but was countered by the Italian team's defense. On a counterattack for Roma in the 76th, Rossi rushed forward on the right and his cross found Perrotta, whose low shot easily beat goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis. Roma hosts Olympiakos on October 31 in the next round of matches. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
