Pune FC are all set to test their might against Blackburn Rovers, the first English club to play in India, on Friday. Big as the event may be for players of the Indian club, most are just looking to enjoy the game.
Blackburn, owned by Indian poultry giants - Venky's, are a formidable team although their standings in the EPL may not show the same. Pune FC however, are hoping to make it an experience from which the team can take lessons from.
"There is no fear. We are lucky to be playing a team like Blackburn Rovers," said midfielder Shanmugan Venkatesh on the eve of the match. The player added that he expects the locals to back his team to the hilt which would add to the excitement.
Others in the team are also hoping for the match to increase the love for the sport in the country. "It is a very big event. I hope people are aware of this match. It should be fun," said midfielder Izumi Arata.
While the match, earlier scheduled for July 22, had to be deferred due to the Mumbai blasts, locals in Pune are expected to come out in large numbers to enjoy the quality match in prospect, in their city.
