Tottenham:
The pressure on the Leeds United and former England manager Terry Venables increased significantly after his team went down to a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. It represented Leeds' eighth defeat in the 15 games they have played in this Premiership campaign - as many as they lost in the league during the whole of last season. It took Teddy Sheringham - one of Venables' favourite players - just 11 minutes to put Tottenham ahead. The visitors offered very little in the way of an offensive threat. Spurs weren't exactly impressive, but they continued to plug away and Steven Carr went close. Leeds fans are still furious with Venables for allowing Robbie Keane to leave the club in August a€" they will be incensed now, after Keane doubled Spurs' advantage in stunning fashion in the 41st minute. The second half was a complete non-event, almost entirely void of meaningful chances, though high on fouls. Leeds maintained their superb form on this front, picking up another seven yellow cards to add to their already substantial total for the season. The culmination of an appalling match saw Spurs win 2-0 - they improve to seventh, though Blackburn may overhaul them depending on the outcome of their fixture at Charlton. It's now six defeats and just one win in their last nine league matches for the Yorkshire side. With an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) coming up this week, radical changes could soon be made.(AP)Topics mentioned in this article
