Two-goal lead Boca Juniors were at home to Lanus in the opening round of Argentina's Clausura championship. Boca went ahead at La Bombonera stadium when midfielder Diego Cagna was allowed space to run and shoot, with the ball deflecting off defender Leandro Gioda and into the Lanus net. The home side were 2-0 up in the 42nd minute after being awarded a penalty. Boca defender Baiano looked to be fouled by Walter Ribonetto and referee Rafael Furchi pointed to the penalty spot. However, replays suggested that Ribonetto was a little unlucky to be punished, with Baiano's "dive" doing enough to convince referee Furchi. Guillermo Barros Schelotto made no mistake with the penalty kick and Boca looked to be cruising with a two-goal lead. Lanus hits back But the home side appeared to relax after the break, and Lanus hit back to square the match. First, Claudio Graf reacted quickly to score from close range after a header was knocked down from a free kick. That was on 74 minutes and eight minutes later Lanus were level. Substitute Cristian Fabbiani rose high to produce a strong header that was saved by Boca goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri. But the rebound fell to Fabbiani and he fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net. The match finished 2-2,, leaving Boca to wonder how they could let a two-goal lead slip through their fingers.
