Worcester:
Worcester Warriors' marked their sixth Zurich Premiership win in eight games as they beat Sale Sharks 23-10 at their Sixways Stadium on Friday. As Worcester stepped out onto the turf they knew that they would have few better chances to extend a three game unbeaten run in the Zurich Premiership. Philippe Saint-Andre's depleted Sale Sharks, who were without 14 members of their squad through international call-ups and injuries. Good going It didn't take long for Worcester to get going, as wing Giscard Pieters crashed over the line. Tony Spreadbury quickly brought in the video referee, and despite Bryan Redpath's gallant attempt to prevent the ball being grounded, a try was duly given. Siaosi Vaili scored in similar fashion nineteen minutes later to make it 12-0. Sale were hardly in the match and had just a solitary Mike Hercus penalty to show for their efforts, which took the score to 12-3. Breaking tackles Then Worcester's South African full back Thinus Delport joined the line and broke two tackles before scoring the try of the match just before the break. The home side took a 14 point advantage into the second half - the boot of James Brown added a brace of penalties in the 53rd and 64th minutes and Worcester were almost out of sight. Sale suddenly seemed to remember that they were lying joint second in the table with Wasps, albeit some 12 points behind leaders Leicester, and came back into the match. Hooker Johnny Roddam grounded the ball as the Sale pack drove over the Worcester try line from a line-out in the 70th minute. And when Mike Hercus converted to make it 23-10 with ten minutes to go a remarkable comeback seemed possible. Sweet revenge However, that never materialised. Worcester registered their sixth win in eight matches and gained sweet revenge for a 57-3 mauling at the hands of Sale in the reverse fixture at Edgeley Park last September. Four more points also takes Worcester ten clear of Northampton, who are currently occupying the relegation spot. Sale will just be hoping that some of their senior players return soon.
