Utrecht:
Utrecht and PSV Eindhoven played out a dull goalless draw in a Dutch Eredivisie fixture played at the Galgenwaard stadium in Utrecht on Friday. PSV had the better of the chances on offer, but failed to find the back of the Utrecht net. The result helped PSV climb a point ahead of title rivals Feyenoord at the top of the league, whilst Utrecht jumped one place to fourth. Friday's fixture saw fifth-placed Utrecht host top-of-the-league PSV Eindhoven at the Galgenwaard stadium in Utrecht. PSV made the brighter start with a shot on target within the opening minute. But Gerald Sibon's powerful effort lacked the placement to get past Utrecht goalkeeper Rene Ponk. A fairly uneventful first half followed, with neither side troubling the opposing goalkeeper too much. PSV did have a couple of half-chances, with Jefferson Farfan and Johann Vogel going closest. Farfan had a good opportunity to give his side the lead, but Ponk made a good save from an acute angle. Vogel's shot went just wide a few minutes later. Utrecht's best chance of the half fell to Hans Somers. He did well to hook his foot under a ball played into the PSV area by Darl Douglas, but his shot cleared the crossbar by some distance. The teams turned with the score still goalless, but PSV went on the attack soon after the break, and from a corner captain Philip Cocu went close with a header that Ponk turned away. PSV continued to press for the opening goal and Farfan spurned another great opportunity. A delightful through-ball was played to the striker, but Ponk made another excellent save from point-blank range, with Farfan through on goal. The next PSV player to have an opportunity to score was Ji Sung Park. He cut in from the left and exchanged passes before firing a shot that Ponk did well to keep out. Thereafter, neither defence was troubled, with both teams settling for a point after 90 minutes. The result lifted Guus Hiddink's PSV a point ahead of title rivals Feyenoord at the top of the table.
