PSV Eindhoven beat Twente Enschede 2-0 in the latest round of matches in the Dutch first division on Saturday. Goals from Gerald Sibon and Phillip Cocu either side of the halftime confirms their lead atop the Eredivisie, eight point clear of nearest rivals AZ Alkmaar. PSV Eindhoven who secured their place in the Champions League knockout phase after a 1-1 draw with Arsenal this week, took the lead against Twente Enschede after 15 minutes when Twente keeper Cees Paauwe let a Gerald Sibon shot slip through his hands and legs. But the early goal had emboldened the PSV strikers - Johann Vogel thought he too would try the long shot and the under-pressure Paauwe. But the keeper's nerves had settled and he ably palmed the shot away. In the second half the PSV pressure continued - starving FC Twente of valuable possession. Mark van Bommell and Sibon paired up behind the defenders - denied only by inches (centimetres) from a second score. That came midway through the second half. Philip Cocu connecting with a DaMarcus Beasley free kick for a doubling of the scoreline. His superb long-range header leaving Paauwe stranded. The result leaves PSV with their 11th consecutive league clean sheet and 1,030 minutes without conceding a goal. They have 38 points after 14 matches. AZ Alkmaar, travelling to Groningen on Sunday, are second on 30. Feyenoord are third with 26 and playing Heerenveen, while champions Ajax are a point behind their Rotterdam rivals and at home to RBC Roosendaal. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
