Senegal, Nigeria, South Africa and Morocco all won to take first place in their respective African World Cup qualifying groups. Senegal, which reached the quarterfinals at the 2002 World Cup finals, crushed Liberia 6-1 to take the lead in Group 1 with 13 points. Two-time African player of the year El Hadji Diouf scored a pair of goals. Also, Nigeria beat Gabon 2-0 to move to the top of Group 4, South Africa edged Uganda 2-1 to remain in the lead in Group 2, and Morocco edged Guinea to move ahead in Group 5. Only the five group winners advance to the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany. In Dakar, Senegal, Khalilou Fadiga scored the first goal for Senegal in the 16th minute, and Diouf followed with a penalty kick in the 44th after Mamadou Niang went down. Abdoulaye Faye headed in another in the 54th minute, and Henri Camara made it 4-0 shortly after. Moussa N'Diaye got the fifth goal off a great pass from Fadiga. Diouf scored his second goal off a pass from N'Diaye in the 83rd. Oliver Makor got one back for Liberia with a goal from the left corner just four minutes before the end. Both Senegal and Zambia have 13 points in Group 1, followed by Togo with 10. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
