Auxerre took on Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday. Last season Auxerre gave Bordeaux a 5-0 thrashing in this Ligue 1 fixture, but as the sides met again at the Abbe-Deschamps on Sunday, there was little sign of a goal feast on this occasion. Marouane Chamak's attempt to nip in front of Auxerre 'keeper Fabien Cool for Bordeaux in the 33rd minute was the closest either sides came to breaking the deadlock in the opening period. The second half continued in much the same vein until the game sprung to life with twenty minutes to go. Rare effort The pass from Auxerre's Ivory Coast winger Kanga Akale put Luigi Pieroni through on goal but the Belgian striker's lift over Ulrich Mame came back off the woodwork. It was a rare effort on goal from the home side. With time running out, Bordeaux midfielder Camel Meriem launched a long ball wide to substitute Julien Faubert. His angled cross got behind the Auxerre defence, forcing defender Bakari Sagna to slip and presenting Jean-Claude Darcheville with a clear shot on goal. However, Bordeaux's top scorer last season missed the target from eight metres - rather summing up the game in one moment. It ended 0-0 and did little for either side's title ambitions. Auxerre move up a place to fifth, while Bordeaux remain in seventh. (AP)
