New York:
Mexico will face Venezuela on May 5 in a friendly at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, the beginning of El Tri's final phase of preparations for the World Cup in Germany. The match will be staged by Major League Soccer's marketing arm Soccer United Marketing, the last of five for Mexico in the United States this year in its march toward soccer's quadrennial championship. Mexico beat Norway in December in San Francisco, lost to South Korea in February in Los Angeles, and defeated Ghana in Frisco, Texas and Paraguay in Chicago in March. El Tri has won all five previous meetings against Venezuela, dating back to 1938. Mexico begins its World Cup schedule against Iran on June 11 and later faces Angola and Portugal.
