Hamburg:
VfL Wolfsburg missed the chance to reclaim the Bundesliga leadership from Bayern Munich when they lost 3-1 away in Hamburg on Sunday. Wolfsburg, needing a win to go back top following Bayern's 3-1 victory over Kaiserslautern on Saturday, took the lead inside just 20 seconds through Thomas Brdaric. But Hamburg hit back with goals from Daniel van Buyten and Sergej Barbarez in the last five minutes of the first half, before substitute Bernardo Romeo grabbed the third in second half injury time. VfL Wolfsburg visited Hamburg on Sunday needing victory to move them back above Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga. They could not have wished for a better start, going ahead after only 19 seconds through Thomas Brdaric - the German international finishing after a fine move which caught the home defence napping. From that moment on, however, Hamburg dominated a Wolfsburg side lacking suspended play-maker Andres D'Allesandro. Having gone close to equalising on several occasions, Hamburg's persistence was rewarded in the 40th minute when captain Daniel van Buyten's effort evaded the defensive wall and caught visiting 'keeper Simon Jentzsch flat-footed. Hamburg took the lead on the stroke of half-time, Sergej Barbarez's shot finding its way past Jentzsch into the net. With 20 minutes left, Wolfsburg's Facundo Hernan Quiroga received a second yellow card for a crude challenge on Almami Moreira. Hamburg missed several chances to move further ahead, but eventually found a third in injury-time when Bernardo Romeo touched in Christian Rahn's cross. Defeat for Wolfsburg left Bayern top of the table for the first time in 18 months, with 29 points from 14 matches. Wolfsburg are second on 27, ahead of Schalke 04 on goals scored.
