New Delhi:
Poland coach Pavel Janas has set his team a clear target in Germany, to at least reach the second round. Janas, who played for Legia Warsaw and French club Aux-zear as a defender, was one of the members of Poland's 1982 World Cup side and has a realistic aim for his squad. "We are basically happy to have reached the World Cup finals. So, this was the basic aim, and now we would like to leave the group stage. This is our first objective," he said. Janas can call upon an established, hard-working squad of players to do the required job in Germany. Captain Tomash haito marshals a defence that includes Liverpool goalkeeper Verzy Dudek while up-front, the main-man Zurawski will be accompanied by Tottenham Hotspur striker Gregoory Razhiakh. The venue of the 2006 finals has been a happy hunting ground for Poland. Their Olympic and World Cup successes of the 70'S were both in Germany. Scheduled to meet Ecuador in their first finals encounter, they then have the task of playing the host nation, Poland's toughest match in the group stage. The top two of each group move into round two.Topics mentioned in this article
